We need a voice

The negative advertising against Lisa Brown in the 5th District congressional race came even quicker than expected. I wish to thank Kip Hill (“A closer look at campaign ad claims,” July 15, 2018) for his insight on the importance of researching facts behind the “pop flash” slander statements in Cathy McMorris Rodgers’ ads.

An example - a bill in the Washington state House required out-of-state companies printing mailed advertisements that wound up in the mailboxes of Washington state residents to pay the same sales tax as those within the state. Lisa Brown voted yes and CMR voted no. Ask a local printer or any small business how that affects them - it’s a fairness issue and good for local business. I do not believe this makes one a Liberal Tax Hawk.

I encourage voters to research campaign ad facts and the source of funds. Are you comfortable knowing that CMR has received $7.8 million in PAC campaign donations during her congressional career?

Just recently contributions from Pfizer, Amgen, Abbvie and Eli Lilly pharmaceutical companies. This past week saw the introduction for vote of House Bill 225-186 Campaign-Finance Disclosure requiring unions and corporations to disclose their funding of political ads and name their contributors, information now kept from the public. A yes vote opposed any debate and killed this bill. CMR voted yes.

Please vote for Lisa Brown. It is time to have a voice in Congress that represents the people of the 5th District.
