Watch votes, not ads
As the mid-term elections draw closer, the airwaves are beginning to fill with sound bites intended to convince voters favorably. Nobody should make a choice in our crucial congressional race based on television or radio ads or commercials. Rather, read and pay close attention to the information in the box which appears in the Sunday Spokesman-Review that summarizes the significant votes of the United States Senate and the Congress from the previous week.
Here is a representative sampling of Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers’ votes within the past month:
- Voted with the GOP majority to quash an effort to expand background checks on commercial gun sales.
- Voted with the majority to kill a rule giving Clean Water Act protection to headwaters and wetlands.
- Voted with the majority to repeal a Consumer Financial Protection Bureau action against auto lending that imposes higher interest rates on minority borrowers.
- Voted with the majority to block a Democratic bid to force present and future presidents or presidential candidates to disclose their tax returns.
These are just a few of the significant votes that have been cast on your behalf. If you like these, and if you continue to support the current house speaker and the president, then you will likely vote for CMR.
If you prefer to try something different, the sterling state-level leadership of Lisa Brown offers our best hope for some significantly better outcomes.
