Jeopardy of U.S. Democracy
I recently attended a “Town Hall Event” by Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers in Deer Park. However, the conversation I had with CMR was omitted from a Spokesman-Review article, so I would like to report it here.
I asked our representative if she thought the Russians interfered in the 2018 elections or if the investigation into this was just a witch hunt? Furthermore, what was she planning to do to prevent Russian interference in upcoming elections? She did not answer the question, but stated there was no collusion between Trump and the Russians. I responded that our concern should be about the Russians influencing our democracy. She asked me what I would do. I said to support the investigation and respond appropriately. She repeated there was no collusion and moved on to other questions. We were interrupted twice by the audience. The first person said that we did not need more government regulations in our elections. I responded by saying I was not willing to hand over our democracy to the Russians.
Another person in the crowd chimed in that we should be spying on the Democrats. I now fear more for the state of U.S. democracy than I did before this meeting.
