Voices of crying children

I wish to add my voice to the millions of people who are speaking out against the Trump administration’s policy of zero tolerance at our U.S. border. Nothing is humane about children being separated from their parents and other family members. I see this as government-sponsored child abuse. This kind of separation trauma for children is an epitome of violence and a moral outrage.

On the news we hear the voices of children crying for their mothers or family members. Is our president deaf to these cries and to those who demand a stop to these torturous behaviors? Let us continue to stand up and break our silence and ask for compassionate justice-making around all immigration issues. The president himself has the power today to stop this inhumanity and to support bipartisan efforts in Congress to become again a nation that receives those who seek refuge.

“Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, /The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. /Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!” The Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation, Inc.
