Disappointed in Mayor Higgins

I was very disappointed that Mayor Higgins turned down Ben Wicks’ suggestion to hear from the public on March 2, at the Spokane Valley City Council emergency meeting regarding the Barker Road Bridge. Some members of the SVCC said they wanted more public input on this project before moving forward, yet didn’t want to hear from people today who took time off work to be in attendance. We were there and jumped through hoops to attend. Why not hear from us?

I’m also not clear what all the drama was about today. It sounds like Option #5 has been thoroughly vetted and makes the most sense logistically, financially and for the sake of safety. Option #6 is not only fiscally irresponsible it logistically does not seem sound either.

Is this because some people don’t like roundabouts? I’m sure you’ve seen the information from WSDOT that shows that roundabouts are much safer than signal controlled intersections. https://www.wsdot.wa.gov/Safety/roundabouts/benefits.htm

I have two teenage drivers and for their sake and for the community as a whole I hope you consider safety first. Please listen to your engineers, experts and WSDOT and do the right thing and get this project started.
