Media wrong on walkout

Today, March 14th, was the day that school walkouts across the nation were supposed to be held in honor of the 17 victims of the horrible school shooting that occurred in Parkland, Florida.

I am a freshman at Mead High School, and though I decided not to participate in the walkout, many of my peers did. Their intentions were to support the victims on this day; however the news and media across the nation reflected a different message. News stations such as the New York Times and NBC News have been displaying headlines that students nationwide are protesting gun violence.

At my school, several of my friends who participated in the walkout were outraged about how news outlets had changed the story from what we students were told the walkouts were about. As students, we were informed this event was to honor the victims of the shooting in Parkland, Florida. However, a different message was displayed through news outlets across the country.
