This grassroots vote goes to Brown

On May 1, a Spokane Valley writer described Cathy McMorris Rodgers as a “grassroots candidate.” Grassroots means “of the people, not the hierarchy or elite.” Just look at the numbers. Presently Lisa Brown lists 4,414 individual donations; CMR lists 614. These thousands of donors are the real grassroots movement. They are 5th District voters who are mobilizing for a change from a representative who touts “commitment to family and patriotism” but continues to back a president who defies those values.

Lisa Brown does not accept money from corporate PACs. Ask CMR if she can say the same. The Paul Ryan-sanctioned office in Spokane ensures the use of mysterious dark monies to fund a campaign, CMR’s first real challenge in 14 years.

That challenger is Lisa Brown, who has spent the last quarter-century legislating for Eastern Washington residents and teaching in and administrating local universities. She is about real “commitment to family.” She will fight for comprehensive health care including affordable drug coverage and expanding rural health care. As chancellor at WSU, Lisa Brown was instrumental in getting the new medical school underway.

Coming from working-class parents, she recognizes the need to support family wage jobs, education, Social Security and Medicare. She has been a single mom and understands the needs of underserved populations. She stands firm for farmers, growers and ranchers who are a vital part of Eastern Washington’s economy.

As one of the thousands of grassroots supporters, my decision for whom to vote is also easy: Lisa Brown.
