Bloomsday spirit

With the waning of civility and courtesy noted in the media of late, I was pleasantly reminded along the Bloomsday course last Sunday that these attributes are still present in strangers.

As I crested Doomsday Hill, I felt a tap on my elbow and a Good Samaritan (it was Sunday after all) handed me my ring of house and car keys which had fallen from my fanny pack unbeknownst to me. Apparently my unique running rhythm had worked open the zipper pocket in which the keys had been placed.

I was able to briefly express my gratitude but at the time I was low on oxygen and he ran off before I could expand on his considerate behavior.

This act of kindness warmed my heart to think that someone would sacrifice their own goals to alleviate the inconvenience of lost keys for a stranger.
