No time to wait

I support Lisa Brown and love what she stands for, but I have to disagree with her on I-1631, the Clean Air and Clean Energy initiative. Lisa said she supports national climate action, and I do as well, but we don’t have time to wait.

I-1631 is a practical first step to tackling climate change and carbon pollution right here in Washington. And it has real benefits for rural communities as well as the Spokane area.

Initiative 1631 would put a fee on our state’s largest sources of pollution - primarily oil refineries - and invest that revenue into projects that will make clean energy more available to people in our area, clean up our air, restore our forests and protect clean and cool water. Agricultural fuels are exempt from the fee.

Specific examples of how it will benefit our area:

Invest in restoring our forests to make them more resilient in the face of wildfire;

Invest in clean transportation options like cleaner fuels, electrifying school bus fleets and rural broadband so more people have the option to drive less;

Invest in our water supply so we can weather droughts;

Invest in energy efficiency upgrades for homes and businesses.

Please support I-1631.
