Support for Brown
The country is deeply divided politically. Both sides point fingers casting blame.
The main reason for the deep divide is Donald Trump and Republicans who continue to support him. After Trump’s embarrassing visit to Europe where he taunted, threatened and insulted NATO allies and cozied up to Putin, I sent an email to Cathy McMorris Rodgers asking her to denounce Trump for his unpresidential behavior. The response I received included the line “we must improve the tone and civility of debate.” Are her false and misleading attack ads on Lisa Brown part of this civil tone? When a person is not invited to a party attended by many former co-workers and friends because that person is a Democrat, it highlights how deep the division is.
McMorris Rodgers had many opportunities to put country over party by not standing by Trump and his abusive and insulting rhetoric pitting his supporters against Democrats and even moderate Republicans. She could have taken the high road but instead became a significant contributor to the dysfunction of Congress. She can take responsibility for contributing to this divided nation. Voting for Lisa Brown is a step toward healing the divide.
