Time for tuition changes
When I attended WSU in the latter ‘60s, the tuition costs were $125 per semester or $250 per year. This year’s figure for undergraduates is $10,268 for the year, 18 credits maximum per semester.
After leaving WSU I went to Western Washington for graduate school; the cost was a princely $110 per quarter, $88 for undergraduates, no credit limit. The graduate school tuition this year is $3,814 per quarter. And don’t get me started on out-of-state figures at both institutions.
What we are doing to today’s students is downright criminal. All the boomers who consider themselves successful might look at things a little differently had they started out their careers saddled with many thousands of dollars of debt. It’s time to make changes, even if, heaven forbid, higher taxes result!
