Path to destruction

This is in response to the article written by Sue Lani Madsen (“Homeless assessment must be candid,” March 23, 2019) and letters published about compassion for the homeless.

How about having compassion for business owners who work downtown or near downtown who first must clean feces, needles and debris before opening shop?

The gross incompetence of Ben Stuckart and Kate Burke and the left-leaning city council through their policies allowing encampments on public lands and sidewalks have betrayed small business owners, developers and investors. They have stabbed the taxpaying citizenry in the back. The millions of dollars in taxes spent to beautify Riverfront Park and the river so the homeless can destroy it is appalling.

Here’s an idea: have Ben Stuckart and Kate Burke help in the cleanup effort. They can start with City Hall and the public library, round up the homeless and transients and have them clean up debris along the river.

Ben Stuckart and Kate Burke, through their policy of protecting transients and the homeless, are leading Spokane down a path of destruction. They’re jeopardizing the safety of the public, discouraging people from wanting to live, work and visit downtown. Make no mistake about it, this will kill downtown.

Mr. Stuckart and Ms. Burke are part of the problem, not the solution. They must be voted out or removed from office.
