Nadine’s donors problematic

This weekend, a peculiar pamphlet appeared in my door. “Spokane is thriving,” it touted, “BUT radical politicians want to turn Spokane into Seattle!” A picture of Republican Nadine Woodward sat on the back, beneath the slogan (stolen from Stuckart) “A Mayor For All of Spokane.” At the bottom read “Paid for by the Spokane Good Government Alliance.” Its donors? Construction companies, developers, and real estate tycoons.

This is part of the $120,000 PACs have spent buying pro-Nadine influence in our election. Nadine paints homelessness as an existential threat, and Stuckart as a politician eager to welcome Seattle’s problems into Spokane.

The truth? Nadine’s donors created — and profit from — the affordable housing crisis. By purchasing swaths of land at the city’s edges, demolishing wildlife, and demanding hard-earned taxpayer money subsidize the infrastructure, developers sell their far-away, glitzy homes at a premium — driving up traffic and prices with it.

Stuckart’s plan is and always has been to avoid Seattle’s housing crisis. Naturally, he has a plan to solve it: the Comprehensive Plan, a smart, data-driven method to decrease traffic, lower housing prices, and increase density where needed.

Want to avoid the Seattle’s skyrocketing cost of living and homelessness crisis? Vote Ben Stuckart.
