Protect Browne’s Addition

Browne’s Addition is seeking a choice. Yes, a choice. It’s disheartening to see developers come in and build inappropriate and unflattering buildings that disrupt the historic integrity of the neighborhood. Why would they want to do that? Don’t they want to be proud of the growth and development of a beautiful place like Browne’s Addition?

So, we’re determined to have a choice in how our neighborhood develops. We are moving forward to make Browne’s Addition a local historic district and we look forward to all the advantages that come with it. The design standards will preserve the character of our neighborhood with its diverse population, street tree canopy, and mix of houses with true quality and character. The special valuation property tax reduction on renovations; the Historic Tax Credit for income-producing properties; and, the local Façade Improvement Grant will help guarantee appropriate growth and development.

We are asking to have a choice in the decisions to build quality housing and quality businesses that fit into the balance of diverse architecture that reflects the values of Spokane’s first neighborhood. I’m sure that 50% + 1 of the property owners in Browne’s Addition will vote yes to making the neighborhood a local historic district.
