Doing nothing – again
I thought after Sandy Hook that surely that tragedy would be terrible enough to move Congress to pass some meaningful gun reform. But nothing was done.
Then, after Aurora, I thought this act of terror will surely push Congress to act. But nothing was done. After the Las Vegas mass murder I thought, Good Lord, now, for certain there will be legislation to put a stop to this murderous trend. Nothing was done.
Then came Parkland. The teenage survivors of that massacre decided they would do something. They spoke up, marched, confronted the government to do something. The President conducted a sham meeting with these brave students and could hardly conceal his boredom. The government did nothing.
Last week, in the most innocent of places, the Gilroy Garlic Festival in California, even a 6-year-old boy was not spared. And now in El Paso, a lovely city where two of my children were born, has been targeted and at least 20 people are dead. And now Dayton.
I’m sure the president and the House and Senate will express their sadness and shock. But lacking the bravery and courage of the Parkland survivors, they will do nothing. I suppose since the Senate will not even pass bills that would protect our elections and the president thinks that a Russian murderer is his friend, gun legislation is more than they can handle
