Supporting weapons of massacre
On Aug. 7, Cathy McMorris Rodgers held one of her rare town hall meetings at Gonzaga University.
She was challenged on her negative vote on “The Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2019,” which passed in the House 240 to 190 in February of this year and is currently being stonewalled in the Senate by Mitch McConnell, who is preoccupied making grave markers for his opponents in Kentucky. According to KXLY Channel 4 news, CMR states she didn’t want to ban assault weapons.
The Spokesman-Review’s front-page news reported that there have been 255 massacres in the U.S. this year alone. In the majority of massacres, the weapons of choice are assault rifles and high-capacity magazines. Assault rifles are weapons of war and used to kill people. In essence, Cathy McMorris Rodgers, in my firm opinion, is supporting all the massacres of innocent human lives.
For me, CMR, who consistently votes against all gun safety measures and supports the use of a mass killing weapons, defies all logic of compassion for humanity. So Cathy says a prayer that all those killed are in the loving arms of the Maker. Then I think of the 2-month-old infant in the El Paso massacre who no longer has the loving arms of his beautiful parents because they were killed by a hate-filled young man.
With thanks to CMR, he could keep his right to own an assault weapon for its intended purpose. Spot on, Cathy!
