Solutions, not complaints
Good for Richard Kuhling and George Nethercutt for presenting a well-written account of the need for immigration overhaul that gives solutions instead of pointing out the obvious problems (“Asylum process should be revamped,” Aug. 13).
I am tired of the U.S. being the bad guy taking all the blame for other countries abusing their people, another country letting them enter en masse when they could have been stopped before they piled up at the border, and the insinuation that if immigrants reach our border they should be let in automatically.
A good friend years ago emigrated to Australia after going through a lengthy and grueling immigration process. She had to prove she had a profession that was needed in the country - she was a teacher, so no problem there. This included signing a form stating she would never use their public welfare system. She was a teacher for many years, retired, then opened a book store.
Quit loudly complaining about your country’s crisis - we already know what they are - and support real solutions like these two are coming up with by looking at the whole picture.
