Good news is we can act

In response to John S. Emery’s letter to the editor on Nov. 26, “What will we do?”, the answer is we need to do more. The just-out United Nations report states that greenhouse gas emissions have continued to grow 1.5% per year over the last decade. The report states we need to reverse that trend, quadruple-down, and do it now. The good news is that we can.

What each of us can do immediately is let our congressional representative know to support legislation that will cut greenhouse emissions. Columbia University economists confirmed recently that the Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act, HR 763, will reduce carbon emissions 36-38% by 2030. This simple approach will curb emissions, while giving those carbon fees back to every individual to spend as they like, especially benefiting lower and middle income Americans. Ask your congressman to co-sponsor bipartisan HR 763. We can act now to help reverse the trend.
