Short-sighted legislation

Bill Foreman states his support of I-976, limiting vehicle license fees to $30, was to protest indiscriminate spending by our Legislature for projects that provide no benefit to us on the East Side (“Not stupid, just mad as hell,” Dec. 1). But our “coming soon” North-South freeway was to have received $0.9 billion of its $2.2 billion cost from the “Connect Washington: 2015 Transportation Funding Package” that increased licensing weight fees.

Consider how long it would take Spokane County to come up with that $0.9 Billion. That West Siders would have been contributing to the North-South freeway costs is fairly obvious.

And believe it or not we derive benefit from West Side roads … when I visit my kids and friends up and down I-5, when various goods get trucked over Snoqualmie Pass on I-90, etc.

Not stupid, OK, but short-sighted? Something our legislators try to avoid.
