Vaccination fear-mongering

In reference to the December 10 Spokesman-Review letter by Todd Horner (“To each their own toolbox”), I wonder how old he is. He must not have a memory of the diseases helped by vaccines or he could not speak this way. I am 81 and remember lying in the dark with burning eyes for days, due to measles. At least I didn’t have lasting damage.

But far more important, I can never forget my high school French teacher standing before our class, with tears in her eyes, as she told us her 15-year-old son was lying in an iron lung with polio. This had lasting devastating effect on him and his family. The wonderful vaccine not yet developed would have been magical.

The CDC is a reputable organization that nationally is one of our best resources for health issues. If they make money from the patents, fine. They need it for valuable research and applicable testing. I am a career lab medical technologist, and I can tell you and others that we are not serving ourselves in that role, but working for the benefit of a specific person tested or the general public.

Please cease fear-mongering and misleading information. Herd immunity needs all people vaccinated who don’t have a health reason to skip it.
