Exercise does a body good

I’m outraged at our local and national media’s treatment of Peloton based on a misunderstood commercial. EVERYONE can benefit from exercise.

Perhaps the thin, female character in the commercial had never worked out before. What if she had been having trouble sleeping or had been feeling lethargic? Thin people can have high cholesterol, diabetes and high blood pressure, all of which can be helped with regular exercise.

Perhaps the male commercial character actually knows something about health and fitness and wanted to give this woman a gift that would help her feel her best.

If the definition of “health” in our nation is being thin, and if the general public believes the only people who should engage in exercise are those who are overweight, we have an extreme public health crisis. Exercise builds vascular health and strengthens our bones and muscles regardless of our weight, shape or size. Exercise aids in mental clarity, relieves stress, and allows us to set personal goals.

I challenge every news reporter across our region and our nation to exercise regularly for a year and then come back and report on Peloton’s infamous commercial.
