Questions for Cathy
As noted in The Spokesman-Review on Dec. 10, our congressional representative, Cathy McMorris Rodgers, does not support President Trump’s impeachment and has agreed to be honorary Washington state chairwoman for Trump’s 2020 reelection campaign.
In congressional hearings we have heard from Republicans that they are disgusted with the unfair impeachment process and believe that the Democrats have been trying to impeach Trump from the day he was elected. However, we have heard very little, if anything, about how Cathy has arrived at her position.
The facts seem straightforward. Trump held up $380 million to Ukraine pending a request for an investigation on the Bidens until shortly after he learned about the whistleblower report. When confronted by Congress he refused to provide information and blocked witnesses.
So, let’s hear from Cathy about those facts, not the unfair process and instigators of the “witch hunt.”
Why is it OK to hold up aid authorized by Congress without involving Congress? Why do you believe Trump’s explanation that this was all about Ukrainian corruption over the testimony of State Department diplomats who stated under oath that it most definitely was about investigating a political rival? Why is it OK that Trump prevented testimony and blocked Congressional subpoenas? Why aren’t the charges and evidence strong enough to at least put him on trial in the Senate?
You should provide your constituents very clear and specific answers to these questions … and if you oppose the Senate trial, along with your role as state chairwomen for his reelection, you’re definitely well on your way to helping Trump get some more votes during his 2020 campaign.
