Impeachment is the only way

I wasn’t sure when the Intelligence Committee hearings started whether President Trump’s actions qualified for impeachment, but after watching most of all 5 days, I now have no doubt. Trump used military aid (taxpayer money) to pressure a foreign government to interfere in our elections, then tried to cover it up.

The idea of waiting to vote him out of office is ludicrous, given that the whole point of his action was to further undermine our election process. To continue to deny the truth of days of sworn testimony by some of this country’s strongest patriots is to delegitimize our very notion of due process and the rule of law. The performance of the Republican committee members was nothing short of disgusting and disgraceful. They were rude, insulting, intimidating, and completely disrespectful of the Constitution and its role in the checks and balances of our government.

The hearsay argument is hogwash. The argument that no harm was ultimately done so therefore no crime was committed, is equally unsustainable under the law. This president is deeply involved in selfish activities that have and are directly leading to national security compromises that have very serious domestic and international implications. When Republicans say they don’t “see” an impeachable offense, it is because their eyes are closed, for purposes of irresponsible party loyalty.

President Trump has never communicated anything in a straightforward manner, because he thrives on confusion and chaos. Impeachment is the only way to prevent him from further endangering our national interests.
