Mark Galli’s courage

Hugh Hewitt, in an opinion piece published by the Spokesman on Dec. 21, takes to task Mark Galli for his Christianity Today column advocating for the removal of President Trump (“Christianity Today only hurt itself”).

As a proud member of the “left-wing sort” referenced by Hewitt, and a former member of a “crippled” mainline denomination (Hewitt’s characterization), I am quite tickled by the possibility that there might be a slight crack in the evangelical force field that cocoons Trump.

I commend Mr. Galli for the courage to put himself out there; he knew what sort of blowback he would face. Blowback based not on the merits of his case against Trump, but the unforgivable sin of breaking ranks and taking to task huckster evangelical leaders. We need more people of faith to step up and challenge the president. Thank you, Mr Galli, for being one of them.
