Buttigieg can be a world leader
In his “Are we ready” letter in the Dec. 21 Spokesman, James Becker asked for thoughts about the ramifications of presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg being gay.
With an impeccable life history (albeit 39), defending Pete is easy. I’d like to, however, turn the tables around. Including history, how many world leaders are there who have/had several wives? How many have been divorced several times? How many have children out of wedlock, or are adulterers, worship, dress in a way or eat things immensely foreign to us?
I’ve only scratched the surface of things we - as supposedly Christian, animal loving, environmentally conscious and freedom/equality loving people - consider abominable! It all comes down to respecting the person’s country, customs and tradition. Nothing can replace the leader’s character and the way he/she represent their country’s ideals. World leaders know this. The only ones laughed at or ridiculed are the obvious tyrants or air bags.
So yes, I believe Pete Buttigieg is a highly intelligent young man, a proven good American with impeccable character who can lead our great country into a wonderful future.
