A need for charity

Charity, or more specifically, the lack thereof, has always been a problem in our country as well as in our area. I recently conducted a survey of adults to see how more money can be brought in for charity. In the survey, there was a stark contrast between answers when asked if they would give a person in need of money for food or clothing and the willingness to donate money to an accredited charity. Only 10-30 percent of people said they would give a homeless person money to get food or clothing, whereas upward of 80 percent of people said they would give money to a charity.

There was also a big difference between a willingness to donate to a local charity and a nationwide or worldwide charity. Only 20 percent of people would give money to a worldwide charity, when compared with the 80 percent of people that would give to Second Harvest Food Bank. The solution to the lack of charity quickly becomes apparent. There is a need to have advertising showing that the money donated to Second Harvest goes to helping those in need, locally.
