City Council’s disrespect

So now we want to spend thousands of dollars to determine whether the Spokane City Council is badgering people who testify at their meetings. I have a cheaper method. Go sit through a council meeting and watch them show utter disrespect for anyone who doesn’t agree with them. Especially vulnerable are well-trained, dedicated staff members who come armed with correct information and good ideas, only to leave after being embarrassed by council members.

One council member, speaking about the mayor, is quoted as saying “I didn’t get my way and I’m going to do what I want to do anyway.” You just described the whole council, ma’am.

Another prides himself in telling everyone that he is an attorney. Someone needs to tell him that his profession is one of the most hated and least respected in the U.S.

Now Shawn Vestal, seldom right about anything, comes along and blames the mayor for the council’s ineptitude (“It’s not a shutdown, but Condon and the council have found themselves in quite the stalemate,” Jan. 27). Apparently Mr. Vestal needs to attend a council meeting also.

It’s time to sweep all these people out of office. And that means not re-electing any of them to their present positions, nor promoting the two who would dare to run for a higher position.

Let’s elect people who display common decency and an ability to listen to employees who present good ideas. It’s time to replace this under-achieving, do-nothing Council with people who care about this city and aren’t there just to feed their own egos.
