Breathtaking incompetence

The first election I voted in was in 1972 and I voted for Nixon - and I would again. In the years 1972-1974 it was clear about the immense importance of the press and media - especially investigative journalism - for our democracy and republic. Nixon committed crimes but there still is no doubt about his competence and flawed presidency.

The sheer volume of lies, criminality, corrupt and breathtaking incompetence of Trump and his offspring - nepotism - makes Nixon look like a saint. His complete contempt for our laws, decency and values of most of the American people is without rival in our history as a nation. I don’t think all his followers are “deplorable” as Hillary Clinton said, but maybe most of them if they still support this despicable regime.

For the fellow evangelicals who made this travesty possible they have besmirched not only themselves but a great religion. Catchy McMorris Rodgers will wake up some morning and stick her wet finger in the air to see which way the wind is blowing and switch her disgraceful support of this family. I think the whole family is in on it.

I am not a wealthy person, but when the Spokesman-Review recently significantly raised the subscription price to survive I renewed immediately. Our current situation nationally and locally underlines the indispensable role the Spokesman-Review plays in our community and I hope as many people as possible consider it a civil responsibility to support their newspaper.
