Respect must be earned
Sun., Jan. 20, 2019
Given Trump’s propensity for exhibiting a lack of respect for others, how can his supporters question “… where is the respect by the media shown to the president …”? (Manny Aguilar’s January 12th letter). This is a person who has set a new standard for using our country’s highest office to show nothing but disrespect for those who dare challenge him.
A few examples (but far from all) of the names he has and continues to use in his tweets and statements: Wacky and Deranged; Crazed Crying Lowlife; Leaker and Liar; Slime Ball; Nut Job; Dumb as a Rock; Slippery; Horseface; Frankenstein; Little Man; Pocahontas; Sloppy; Crooked; Lyin’.
As a reminder to those who feel the media is picking on Trump, respect must be earned - it is not bestowed on you just because of your status in life, economic wealth, or office you may hold. Until he starts to show respect and empathy for others, I will continue to refuse using the word “president” with his name in the same breath. I love my country and respect the office of the presidency. But I refuse to respect those who show only disrespect for others.
