Where is the outrage?

How can it possibly be that six of the seven members of the Spokane City Council voted this past session to override the will of the people and pass a $42 million sports complex project? I would have thought that the council got the message when the nonbinding referendum was defeated after the question was posed for District 81 to construct a complex in the past election. The voters not only defeated the project they defeated the entire idea.

To ask the taxpayers of our community to shell out this amount of money for something obviously unwanted is scandalous. And everyone should know that $42 million will never hold for huge projects that invariably have large cost overruns.

The Veterans Arena serves well for Spokane’s sports venue. Wake up, City Council and drive around Spokane to observe more important needs. The street department cannot keep up with all the repairs needed. There are unpaved streets all over the city.

And then there are the homeless. Thank goodness for the churches in our community.

Rise up against these six elected members and find a way to permanently shelve this boondoggle. It is the power of the people to override the sports complex.
