Protect Browne’s Addition’s beauty

I would like to applaud Rick Biggerstaff and all of the people who have put in the work to create an historic district in Browne’s Addition (“Historic district sought in Browne’s Addition,” July 1).

The corner home that was torn down to build an apartment building was owned by my grandfather in the late 1930s, early 1940s. He and another gentleman hand-plastered the whole building and I always thought that was amazing. It was a beautiful building and every so often I would drive through Browne’s Addition to see all of the homes, especially the ones owned by my grandparents on both sides of my family. My mom’s parents owned the Tilmont House, W. 2014 First Ave., and my dad’s parents owned several properties in the neighborhood.

I was completely shocked when I drove through the area to admire my grandfather’s house on the corner and instead of his house, there was a huge brand new concrete foundation. I am sure that I developed my love for old buildings because of the places my family lived, and I am pleased that the community want Browne’s Addition to be protected for the character and beauty that it possesses. Thank you very much!
