Who will speak for us?

Recently we’ve read about a teacher refusing to teach the Holocaust, because he wants to present only “neutral” information. It certainly wasn’t for my great uncle, who died in Auschwitz for helping people escape Hitler. It certainly hasn’t been for me either, as recently I’ve been the specific target of anti-Semitism here in our beautiful Spokane.

Some people have told me they don’t care. Once, during WWII, there was a German Lutheran pastor. This was when Hitler’s henchmen were yanking people out of their homes and killing them in the gas chamber, for no reason. First, fascists rounded up and exterminated the Jews. The pastor knew no Jews, so he said nothing. Next were the trade unionists, and of course he’d never been a trade unionist and it didn’t concern him.

Next to be kidnapped by the death heads were the people of color, and obviously he was a white Protestant German pastor and had nothing to do with those kinds of people.

Then there was the knock at the door for the German pastor - and nobody was left so speak up for him.

Let us pray there is always someone left to speak for us!
