Thank you, SPD

The latest Starbucks incident, and people questioning our city’s police presence in the paper at Hoopfest this year, precipitated my letter, which is a thank-you letter to the SPD.

While enjoying this past Hoopfest, many of you, including my 13-year-old kid, witnessed a rock star job by our city police in dealing with a demon on Saturday afternoon.

Thankfully, by the time we walked by, he was hogtied on the ground. This 6-foot, nearly 300 lb. coward tried spitting on the officers unprovoked, even after they tried to make it more comfortable for him.

He looked them in the eyes and yelled, loud and clear for hundreds of people in the park to hear, that he was going to remember this, and when he got out, he was going to shoot each one of them, and then “feed you pigs to my children.”

Nobody should have to hear that and I hope he is prosecuted to the fullest extent.

I’ve seen so many cool changes for the better in 30 Hoopfests, and this guy was hopefully not in his right mind. But what I do miss is genuine respect for the officers. 99.999% of these officers are in it for the right reasons, and unfortunately there are racists and criminals in each profession, and it is those diminutive cases getting all the attention and headlines today.

Thank you SPD. I was probably minutes away from having to protect my family from this beast myself. I’m not a big latte drinker, but next time I’m in a Starbucks the coffee is on me.
