Look around yourself
I presume Mr. Paul Hudson of Mead, advising a professor to change his view point on life (“Look within, professor,” July 14), is white and has never in his life experienced racial prejudice. I am white and I have.
I was born in Ireland, and experienced the racial prejudice of the English towards the Irish when I moved to England. I also experienced racial prejudice at college when a black Nigerian looked down his nose at me because I wouldn’t go out with him - it was not because of his color: he was just such an arrogant so-and-so that nobody in college liked him. When in college I did date a Kenyan Indian student doctor for a while (a lovely gentleman), and don’t think I am racially prejudiced.
However, I do have somewhat of a prejudice against arrogant and self-centred people who do not try to understand the feelings of anyone else (a point of view initially caused by a selfish and arrogant sister).
