Beggs is the best choice

Breean Beggs is the most qualified and best candidate for Spokane City Council president.

While serving on the council he has demonstrated that he is a voice of reason and compromise on many contentious issues, perhaps most notably the issue of proper treatment of people experiencing homelessness.

Because I care deeply about environmental issues, I will focus here on some of the things he has done to improve Spokane’s environment and the City Council’s response to the climate crisis. As the chair of the Public Infrastructure, Environment and Sustainability Committee, Breean has overseen all issues related to the environment and sustainability that have come before the City Council. This includes the new tree ordinance that set a goal of increasing our urban tree canopy from 23% to 30% by 2030.

It also includes our recent climate crisis-related ordinance that set a goal of 100% renewable energy for electricity in the city of Spokane by 2030. I was part of the group that helped the City Council draft that ordinance and I was pleased to see Breean personally involved in the meetings and email exchanges developing the language in that ordinance.

He also was the leader in working with Avista to modify the language of that ordinance so that they would support it. When you get the energy company to support a bill that sets a goal of 100% renewable energy for electricity by 2030, you have demonstrated your skill as a negotiator.

Breean Beggs is a skilled negotiator and reasonable person. He is the best choice for Spokane City Council president.
