Follow the money

I loved Sunday’s article about how the real estate folks are going to ‘solve’ the housing problem (“Realtors are buying a voice in Spokane primary elections,” July 21).

They sure will all right, but you won’t be able to buy any house they build.

Ben Stuckart has been working for over a year on housing for working-class folks, people like you and me who can’t afford a home in the current market; Nadine will say, “Let them eat cake!” Ben’s supported infill, lot revisions and more to increase density, but with an eye to affordability, you won’t get that from anyone else!

Breean Beggs has the city on his mind, while Mike Fagan has “Liberty” on his – who do you think will actually make the city better? In District One only one person has our neighborhoods in mind who can actually get something done: Jerrall Haynes. It’s sad that with all the candidates only two really care about the district - Jerrall and Louis!

If you care about your city and not just about agenda politics, the pickings are slim. Follow the money ($175,000 plus from the Realtors), if you don’t want sky-high buildings around Riverfront Park or lots of new snazzy high priced building on the periphery, then choices are few.
