Irresponsible development
The city of Spokane and developers better take a hard look at growth in southwest Spokane (“Capacity concerns in southwest Spokane,” July 19). Slapping approval on every development is detrimental to our city. This is not “infill.” This is irresponsible. This area might be in the city limits, but the infrastructure is set up for country living.
WSDOT seems to be shortsightedly solving last year’s problems, not looking into the future. It is struggling to absorb the already expanding Eagle Ridge and increase of homes just across the city limit. Furthermore, there are no amenities for foot, bike, or, help us, scooter traffic. There are no shoulders on these roads, much less sidewalks. I have seen several pedestrians narrowly escape being hit by a car. Ironically, without driving, nearby Fish Lake Trail and Slavin Preserve are too dangerous to get to for recreation.
This high-density housing either belongs closer to the city center, or city amenities need to be provided. In addition, we need schools, water, fire and law enforcement. Is this city’s mission to house as many people as possible disregarding their safety and quality of life? It seems so.
