I am glad to see that there are folks who are willing to call into question the ridiculous extremes to which our country is being subjected. The recent letter by S. Smith Warner (“Everything’s upside down,” July 14) is, I am sure, a reflection of the great majority of citizens’ mindset. The foolish adherence to political correctness, and the attempt to satisfy everyone, has created a divide in the media, in Congress, and, indeed, in the entire country.

I, too, am confused by the legitimacy of the idea of “gender identity” which allows males to invade spaces (bathrooms, showers, athletic events) formerly reserved for females. And why, just because I have a different view of same-sex marriage or homosexuality, does that make me a bigot or a racist? Tolerance seems to be defined by holding the radical left view.

I pray daily that the Lord will deliver us (and Congress in particular) from our obsession with political correctness and adherence to “my way or the highway” and that we can return to some sense of respect and normality.
