What’s their interest?

So in order to “fix” the housing crisis which is gripping Spokane as it is nearly most of the nation, the Realtors are “… playing big this year” pouring over three quarters of a million dollars into the mayoral and City Council candidates of their choice (“Realtors are buying a voice in Spokane primary elections,” July 21).

The individuals, who during their interviews with the Realtors committed their willingness to rethink property rights and policies worked on for years by citizen groups that provide areas for housing as well as for parks and open spaces to be used by residents.

In looking at such policies in order for the Realtors to play big with their cash, perhaps they should remember other such times that limits were pushed on housing developments which resulted in homeowners dealing with flooding, ground shifting, etc., because a rush of pushing through permitting caused normally common sense to be thrown aside and building to be completed even though it cost homeowners and others substantial dollars to repair the problems once the development was in and occupied.

When special interests intervene in political races and provide as much/more money than individual donors do to candidates I think it’s time for voters to step back and ask why very loudly!
