Thumbs-up, protesters
My three grown daughters were in town and we were on our way to Kendall Yards. One of the girls said we should drive by the downtown library and see the situation concerning the cross-dressers reading to the kids. I agreed thinking that this was an opportunity for all four of us to see America at its very best. People expressing their diverse and opposing opinions without shooting each other.
As we arrived on the scene, the protesters were on the south side of the street, there was another group across the intersection and the supporters filled the sidewalk in front of the library. The girls rolled down the car windows and the daughter facing the protesters started yelling “Jesus loves everybody!” “Open your hearts and minds!” The girls seeing the supporters started shouting words of support and clapping their hands. One of my daughters started laughing and said “Let’s go by again and I will shout ‘Jesus wore a dress’!”
I said, “What are you talking about. Jesus wore a robe just like everyone else those days.”
My daughter answered laughing, “Well it kind of looked like a dress. Let’s go back.”
Needless to say I did not agree to her suggestion and since I was driving had the power to make the decision. What my girls didn’t see was the quiet thumbs-up sign I sent to the protesters as we cruised by.
