Ethno-state of Liberty

Washingtonians should be very alarmed by Stravo Lukos’ letter (“What Liberty could be,” Feb. 23) concerning the establishment of a “Liberty” state.

It is clear by the coded dog whistle statements in the letter such as “decades of government failures,” “unconstitutional meddling,” “immoral indoctrinations,” “programming media” and “state prosecuting non-liberals” that the intention of making a new state is to create a whites-only ethno-state in what is now Eastern Washington.

White nationalist organizing can manifest itself without publicly mentioning race or religion. It is easy to see by the proposed borders of this new “state” that an exclusive white population is the aim. White supremacy is the emergency in this country, not liberalism or immigration. The United States is a country of inclusion, not bigoted extremism.

In a democracy, all citizens of age have the right to vote. If a group of people do not like the direction of a government policy, they can vote to influence policies to reflect their beliefs. They do not have the right to change the rules to get their way. And they cannot make up their own Constitution.
