Work together for wildlife
Wildlife program director with the Lands Council and guest opinion writer Chris Bachman treks a good course. In the “Wolf We Feed” (Feb. 19, 2019), he addresses the wildlife/livestock crisis pertaining to the increased aggression by the wolves. It’s an informative piece lending itself to demonstrate how difficult a task it is to form a team of people coming from diverse viewpoints, namely the conservationists and the agricultural community.
Not personally affiliated with either of organizations, I at this juncture ask, have we as members of this ever-evolving and advanced civilization really moved any closer to being a people who know how to live and work together? Are the windows of our minds opened wider now to allow in those views differing from our own? And can we, with others, look beyond those differences to find viable, mutual solutions? I reread compilation of Kent Nerburn’s book, “The Wisdom of the Native Americans,” (1999) to see if I believe we can move beyond the cultural exchanges of yesteryear, when we were not good listeners…
It is my prayer the agricultural community and the conservationists be in team ready mode - ready to provide an environment suitable for sharing their diversified knowledge; that they will use their invaluable skills and resources to work together to meet those problems of the now with successful solutions.
