Smart meters’ bigger threat

In regard to the Avista rollout of smart meters in Spokane, I would not worry about customer privacy or low-power-frequency radio waves. These concerns pale in comparison to time-of-use billing. No longer will customers be billed for just how much electricity or gas is used, but also what time of day they use it. What’s next? IP addresses on appliances so they can be disabled if a bill is late? So convenient.
