Clearing up wall facts

It amazes me that there are so many people who do not know how their government works. The latest example is the letter by David Teich on Feb. 28 (“No need for a vote”), where his rambling letter was factually incorrect in several instances.

He stated “money for the wall was not appropriated. Why? Because the elected officials didn’t think it was the right way to protect our border,” referring to when the GOP held both houses in Congress. FYI, in the House it takes a majority vote; in the Senate, for any “funding” bill it takes 60 votes.

Additionally, his statement that “90 percent of drugs come through ports of entry” is just an estimate because no one knows what quantity of drugs go over the border because they don’t catch them. So I assume you are OK with even one death from illegal drugs coming over the border.

Finally, his claim that “some petulant people” who believe in a wall as part of the attempt to secure the border are racists. I support the wall, I support high tech and boots on the ground. My African wife certainly doesn’t think I am a racist. Race baiting is evil and it needs to stop.
