Religious health care

Sue Lani Madsen answered her own question in her column “Why vote against care for babies” (March 2) when she wrote that the Democrats thought the vote was a “political stunt.” I agree with them; I thought the vote was religious pro-life political grandstanding. And I am thankful for separation of church and state.

Sue, you don’t have to go back in time to before Roe v. Wade to understand what men like Donald Trump want for women. I just go to YouTube and search for “baby factory - Philippines” and I can see pro-life health care. Maternity wards full to the brim, right next to abortion wards of women suffering from illegal abortion. Many of those women are teenagers. Hundreds of thousands of illegal, unsafe abortions and a maternal mortality rate that is through the roof.

Who owns the maternity wards here, Sue? Who profits when women are denied birth control? How much will the hospitals charge women for unplanned pregnancies? How much will hospitals charge for “saving” women’s lives from illegal unsafe abortions? Will that 11-year-old rape victim have to carry to term, like in Argentina? If that’s GOP healthcare, I’ll take Medicare for All, thanks.
