Stuckart’s contradictions
It is really rich to read about City Council President Stuckart complaining about government overreach by the Clean Air Agency regarding asbestos control on remodeled buildings. From attempting to tax railcars passing through Spokane, enabling homeless blight, sanctuary for illegals, mandatory helmet laws, etc., he has been nothing but government overreach and control of citizen’s personal responsibility.
Only recently the council imposed restrictions that will probably result in the popular Lime Bikes not returning to Spokane. That experimental program last year avoided tens of thousands car trips in the city, but now the future users of the bikes and scooters have to lug a motorcycle- type helmet with them in order to use these electric vehicles. I thought the president was all in for climate change control. Remember, one gallon of gasoline consumed in a car produces 19 pounds of carbon dioxide, so if the Council is serious about air pollution and climate change it should encourage the use of these convenient and safe electric vehicles.
Next month Councilwoman Kate Burke (Spokane’s version of AOC) will replace Stuckart on the Clean Air Agency board (he never attended anyway). Given Kate’s colorful (blue!) language, that should back off those pesky asbestos inspectors.
Stuckart is reaping what his type of government sows and finally getting a hint of the suppression it wields.
