Regressive city council

“Mayor flabbergasted by UGM decision,” shouts a headline in the April 24 Spokesman-Review. Well, I would think so!

The City Council’s vote reminds me of the old saying about “cutting off one’s nose to spite the face.”

The phony excuse that the Union Gospel Mission would get too much city property in the proposed swap is utter nonsense to anyone at all familiar with the area of UGM. The “streets” vacated for the mission are hardly ever used by the city and its citizens anyhow.

And what of the millions of dollars UGM has saved Spokane down through the years by not merely “feed and sleeping” the homeless and ill-equipped, but as well preparing them to be self-supporting, taxpaying citizens?

Seems to me that Spokane voters had better vote out the “progressive” (better “regressive”) City Council members before they totally ruin the fair city of Spokane. (On second thought, they have pretty much done so already! I for one, stay away from it as much as possible.)
