Half the country traitors?

In response to “Trump’s ‘delicious’ idea” (Jon Hall, April 27), the author represents the worst of what is wrong with our politics. Mr. Hall describes a scenario in which a sudden influx of criminal, illegal, diseased immigrants overwhelm schools and hospitals in liberal, white communities of major cities. The mere thought delights him. Mr. Hall then uses the classic Trump playbook by questioning the patriotism of people who disagree with his opinions.

How we treat refugees is a reflection of our character. Not all will get in, but they’ve walked a thousand miles with their children just for the opportunity. We can and should treat them humanely while they wait for a decision.

The truth is that you could go to a Seahawks game or Riverfront Park on the 4th of July, or wherever, and not be able to identify liberals from conservatives. We all just look like Americans.

I’m a veteran, a taxpayer and a voter since age 18. Tell me again how I’m a traitor because we disagree on this.
