Preu’s well-deserved honor

The Spokesman-Review story about Eckart Preu’s final season as director of the Spokane Symphony (Goodbye to the maestro,” April 28) reminded me that years ago the Spokane Public Relations Council and the local Public Relations Society of America chapter honored Eckart with their occasional special award to a non-communications professional for his outstanding ability to convey his passion for and knowledge of classical music to everyone in the community.

It was a well-deserved accolade that he accepted with his usual warm, chatty and humorous flair. We will miss him, not only for the music he brought to Spokane, but for helping so many of us better understand and appreciate it.
