The unchecked executive

William Barr should be held in contempt of Congress for failing to show up to the hearing set by the House Democrats. Letting his behavior go unchecked sets the precedent that the attorney general, or anyone else who disagrees politically with the party in charge of the House, can simply ignore the law. The AG perjured himself during his testimony and now continues to break the law!

By contrast, AG Holder was held in contempt for failing to produce documents. Can one imagine the holy hell Republicans would scream if he’d flouted a subpoena altogether? The hypocrisy is rank, but more importantly, the branches of our government are co-equal. If the Congress kowtows to this corrupt executive branch, there are no limits they would not breach in their relentless pursuit of unchecked power.

This is a test. I urge Rep. McMorris Rodgers not to fail us. Our democracy is counting on her.
